Lake District seminar - art and migrant workers

SUITCASE CULTURES: projects with refugees and migrant workers in rural areas.
Seminar 1 – 5.00pm, Sat. 21 June, Merz Barn, Cylinders Estate, Elterwater.
Case study presentations: NEWROOTS project by Diane Rickerby Whitehaven (tbc), a photographic project in partnership with Lithuanian and Slovakian migrant women in Maryport, Cumbria; Dr Cian Quale (University of Chester) The First European University – experiences and legacy of refugee artists and intellectuals interned on the Isle of Man during WWII; I Packed this Myself, Susan Roberts Bridging Arts, a photographic and oral archive projects produced by rural migrant workers in the Cornish daffodil industry; Nick May Stringtheory , FOOD CHAIN an ongoing DVD documentation of migrant rural workers in the food industry in Norfolk; and Nick Broomfield’s award winning documentary film GHOSTS, about the Chinese cockle shell pickers who died five years ago in Morecambe Bay.
