Srebrenica Now - concert

17 July 2005 3pm Salon des Arts, 191 Queensgate, London

Bosnian folk music from the London Sevdah Choir and ‘Songs of Memory’, music by Peruvian artist Sofia Buchuck, supported by the Refugees and the Arts Initiative. Admission free. Pay bar.

Sofia Buchuck’s ‘Songs of Memory’ are testimonies of disappearance, love and distance – music from across Latin America, from the Andes to the coast and from Chile to Mexico.

Three musicians – Jose Navarro (charango), Diego Laverde (Colombian harp) and Felix Apolaya (Peruvian Cajon-percussion) – will accompany Buchuck, who also plays pre-Colombian instruments such as pan flutes and other natural instruments from the rain forest. Buchuck has just launched her second CD, ‘Violetas in Peru’.

The London Sevdah Choir, formed in 2004, specialises in Bosnian folk music, both solo voice and with accordion. It has performed at Lambeth Palace and other venues in London.
