Spring news - competition results

First – the 2009 British Sari Story competition winners. Amit Rastogi of RCKC judged the entries last week and had a hard task. We had a strong field with really innovative and wearable designs including a short-skirted tunic sari and a sari with a corset and leggings…. RCKC will make up the five top entries in India and the overall winner will be announced later in the year. In the meantime, congratulations to: – Zahra Ahmed, Peterborough – Amber Ayub, Swansea – Sarah Homfray, Kent – Karindeep Kaur, Essex – Sharen Kaur, London. Keep up to date with news of the project by visiting our blog.

On the road in Cornwall with I PACKED THIS MYSELF
We’re running 15 workshops in schools next week – Ewa Cimochowska has joined the team. Click here for the blog . It’s interesting to see the project develop. Besides throwing a spotlight on the experience of migrant workers, it turns a mirror on local communities and poses questions about identity and self definition. The I PACKED THIS MYSELF exhibition is now at Penair School, Truro, where teachers across the curriculum are running a term of lessons around it. Formal opening and private view on 23 March. A new addition: A Relic Box by Patrick Coleman – a 3D sketchbook on the life of Coleman’s father, who moved to the UK from Ireland in the early 50s. Please email for more about the event – or to book a workshop.

Embroidery and other workshops
Funding permitting – classes at the Asian Women’s Resource Centre in Harlesden with the Royal School Needlework will be starting after Easter. Based around the Embroidery Packs developed in Stitch Wandsworth, designed by Hannah Walker. After Easter, Hannah will run eight weeks of workshops in Shepherds Bush on keeping a sketchbook. There will be a (small) fee for these workshops but materials will be provided. Places are limited – so please email news@bridging-arts.com to book.

We’re writing the blogs as a record of ongoing projects – as well as a way of keeping people up to date with news. If you took part in a class or event, you should be able to track it down via the search button in the top left hand corner. Or, as ever, please email me, for more information.
